Several broad-surfaced agitator combs that project radially deep into the furnace space are secured to the furnace body. The recovery of scrap aluminium, old and waste materials and the aluminium recovered from them cover approx. 45% of overall demand in Europe today. The most economical production process for aluminium is the smelting of scrap aluminium in suitable smelting aggregates. With its broad range of applications, the rotary aluminium furnace is the universal smelting aggregate for highly contaminated scrap, chips, packages and dross. A special smelting aggregate is only technically and economically justifiable for larger tonnages of specifically defined scrap over a long timescale. Decades ago, rotary aluminium furnaces were fitted out with humps made of refractory-clay bricks in order to achieve better agitation, but only with short-term success. These inserts were worn out after only 8 – 10 weeks. Nevertheless a brief improvement in the smelting process was observed. The Innovation in the Rotary Aluminium Furnaces Operational evaluation of agitating devices over a period of 5 years in approx. 50 rotary furnaces shows the following results Reduction in use of salt by 50% from salt factor 1.2 to 0.45 Reduction in dross levels by approx. 35-40% Reduction in dross-recovery costs by approx. 35- 40% Guaranteed gain in yield of 1.5-4% Reduction in smelting time of 33% Increase in smelting performance by approx. 33% Energy savings of 15 – 20% Longer working life of the refractory lining by 20-25% No investment costs, with immediately deductible maintenance expenditure instead SUG Agitating Device: Effectiveness and Profit SUG agitator combs cause strong reactions that clearly improve the smelting process. 1. The introduced scrap and dross are constantly circulated and submerged. The introduced materials no longer float to the surface. The melting loss is noticeably reduced. 2. The energy absorption of the introduced material is Cleary increased as a result of the constant circulation, thereby increasing furnace performance. 3. Energy consumption is reduced. 4. Homogenous electrolyte temperature, no localized overheating. Less melting loss. 5. Better effectiveness and protective effect of the smelting salt. 6. Rapid and even distribution of the smelting lots over the entire furnace space. 7. Longer working life of the furnace refractory lining. 8. Fully functioning working life of the agitating device is 2.5 years on average. The SUG agitating device has been successfully in use for years in over 50 rotary aluminium furnaces in Europe. By means of optional, permanent SUG temperature measurement when the furnace is operational, it is possible to semi-automatically control the furnace according to a preset temperature curve. Rotary Furnace versus tilting Rotary-Furnace With the use of the agitating device the rotary aluminium furnace achieves an increased degree of efficiency, which can also hold its own compared to tilting rotary- furnace. Depending on furnace type, you avoid investment costs of approx. 1.2 – 2.5 Mio. Euro for a completely new furnace facility. Full-Service Licence If you wish we will deliver the agitating device to you free of charge, and every 2 to 3 years the agitating combs will be replaced by our service personnel.
